Program details
The Seniors and Caregivers Support Service Unit at Family Service Toronto offers training workshops for seniors' groups, the general public and service providers on a variety of areas.
Workshops cost:
For seniors and the public: Free
For service providers: Fees are based on an hourly rate and will be negotiated to meet individual circumstances.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group
The Seniors and Caregivers Support Service Unit at Family Service Toronto is offering an ongoing support group for grandparents and other kinship who are primary caregivers of their grandchildren.
We invite you to discuss in a safe and confidential environment topics such as
- Physical challenges (grandparent disabilities)
- Dealing with grandchildren disabilities
- Coping with age-related challenges: preschool, school age, teenager
- Economic burden
- Legal custody vs. informal care giving
- Reorganizing life
- Maintaining family unity
- Baby sitting vs. raising a grandchild
- Financial government assistance & supportive services
- Inter-generational conflict & role overload
- Rewards of raising your grandchildren
When: Wednesdays, starting October 5, 2011

Boost Group for Women 60+
Join our discussion group for women 60+. Learn to restore your self-confidence and build support in your life. Meet others and share experiences.
When: 2nd and 4th Monday of every month (ongoing)
Time: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Where: 355 Church St. (two blocks S. of Carlton St.)

Failure to launch
A group for parents 55+ of adult children who have been unable to secure their independence due to:
- Chronic Illness
- Mental Health
- Addictions
Come out and meet other parents who are dealing with similar issues. Learn how to protect yourself against abuse while supporting your adult child in gaining independence.
- Understand your role in continuing the cycle of dependence
- Learn how to set limits and boundaries
- Become aware of the impact of guilt and shame
- Learn to cope with loss and change and moving forward
This support group will be open ended beginning September 22 and will explore themes relevant to the needs of the participants.
When: The fourth Thursday afternoon of each month from 2 – 4 p.m.

Gaining Strength, Sharing Stories
A group for seniors 50+
Sharing our stories, we discover we are not alone.
- Tell your story in a safe and supportive environment
- Ease isolation by connecting with others
- Learn strategies for emotional safety and self-care
- Focus on creating and maintaining healthy relationships.
When: First Wednesday of each month
Time: 1:30-3:30pm

Challenge of Anger Workshop
Family Service Toronto’s Violence Against Women Program (Family Violence and Community Support Unit), is offering a Seven Session Education Workshop for all women interested in learning more about anger and its impact on family relationships. Sessions will explore the range of ANGER and styles of expression, as well as assertive, non-violent ways of managing it. A focus on self-reflection and mindfulness offers tools for Enhanced Well-Being, with time and attention provided for developing meditative skills.
