What to expect when you start counselling at FST

  • First you phone Service Access at 416-595-9618 to speak with an Intake staff worker to request the type of counselling you need and the desired location.

You will be asked to provide  your personal information and you may be put on a wait list for service.  When a time slot becomes available you will be called to confirm an appointment date and you will be provided with the name of your Counsellor.
  • For your first counselling session you are required to arrive 15 minutes before your session to complete the paperwork required for Counselling at FST.

You will need to do the following:
    • Verify that your personal information is correct and complete
    • Sign an acknowledgement form to verify that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a client
    • Review a fee contract which outlines your fee based on annual household income
    • Read a letter explaining the evaluation/feedback process that we use with all clients.

  •  At the start of the session your Counsellor will give you a form for you to rate how you have been doing in 4 areas of your life.
    • Individually (personal well-being)
    • Interpersonally (family, close relationships)
    • Socially (work, school, friendships)
    • Overall (general sense of well-being)
  • Share your concerns with the counsellor to help them understand your counselling needs and to work collaboratively to develop your counselling goals.
  • At the end of the session you will be asked to complete 4 questions on a Session Rating Scale (SRS) to give feedback to the Counsellor about your counselling experience.
    • Relationship (did you feel heard, understood and respected)
    • Goals and Topics (did you work or talk about what you wanted to work and talk about)
    • Approach and Method (was the therapist’s  approach a good fit for you)
